Celebrating 30 Years of
Bringing the Wellness of Tomorrow, Today
March 9, 2015
Dear Steve,

that a large study published last week in Diabetologia found the largest increase in type 2 diabetes risk yet, 46%, from statin medication? A 10 to 22% percent risk was previously reported, prompting the FDA to add risk language to the drug label.

DID YOU KNOW that one downside to moderate alcohol consumption, according to a study in the March issue of Appetite, is increased intake of lunch portions by 11%, high-fat savory food intake by 24%, and an overall, explicit liking of high-fat savory foods?

In "Did You Know" from March 4th, some readers were confused if green tea was good or bad for food-borne illness protection. The answer is a resounding good!

Have a happy, healthy day. Steve and Bonnie

Multivitamin-Mineral Use Reduces CVD Mortality Risk Among Women
A study from the March issue of The Journal of Nutritionanalyzed 8678 women age equal to or more than 40 years with mortality data reported by the National Death Index through 2011 to examine associations between MVM use and cardiovascular disease mortality.

A significant association was found with MVM use of more than 3 years compared with nonusers. Even more significant is that researchers looked at the data over a 20 year period, which is how vitamins and minerals should be analyzed.

This certainly is not the first or the last study to show the positive effect of long-term multivitamin-mineral use.
