Dear Valued Subscriber,

Periodically, we receive unsolicited testimonials. They are reaffirming and always treasured. While we rarely share them, we would be remiss if we did not share this, sent to us last week.

"My son suffered for quite a few years with stomach trouble. His high school was an hour and a half train ride away and there were many days he just couldn't travel feeling that way. It was very hard on him living with this problem, having to also cancel many outings with his friends. I remember so many times that he had to turn back from fun adventures and I saw him getting depressed and just not wanting to live like that. He finally was diagnosed after a while with S.I.B.O. (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) and was given medicine which did nothing. Out of desperation I turned to this amazing organization that gives medical referrals and although we live in NYC, I was somehow connected to someone near the Chicago area. This was destiny because she told us about Bonnie who had helped her. My husband and son flew to Chicago and Bonnie put him on a strict regimen of diet and supplements. Desperate to get better my son followed it 100% and thank G-d after a year he was better. Bonnie not only gave him his physical health back, but just as important she gave him his quality of life and happiness back. It's been a few years already that he's better and that he can eat whatever he wants and we will always be grateful to Bonnie. Laurie"

Have a happy, healthy week.

Sports, Energy Drinks Causing Irreparable Harm

A study published in the May/June 2012 issue ofGeneral Dentistry found that an alarming increase in the consumption of sports and energy drinks, especially among adolescents, is causing irreversible damage to teeth -- specifically, the high acidity levels in the drinks erode tooth enamel, the glossy outer layer of the tooth.

Many consume these drinks assuming that they will improve their sports performance and energy levels and that they are 'better' for them than soda. Most are shocked to learn that these drinks are essentially bathing their teeth with acid and not much better than soda.

Researchers examined the acidity levels in 13 sports drinks and nine energy drinks. They immersed samples of human tooth enamel in each beverage for 15 minutes, followed by immersion in artificial saliva for two hours. This cycle was repeated four times a day for five days, and the samples were stored in fresh artificial saliva at all other times. This simulated the same exposure that a large proportion of American teens and young adults are subjecting their teeth to on a regular basis when they drink one of these beverages every few hours.

The researchers found that damage to enamel was evident after only five days of exposure to sports or energy drinks, although energy drinks showed twice the potential to damage teeth than sports drinks.

30 to 50 percent of U.S. teens consume energy drinks, and as many as 62 percent consume at least one sports drink per day. Damage caused to tooth enamel is irreversible, and without the protection of enamel, teeth become overly sensitive, prone to cavities, and more likely to decay.

Bonnie: if water is insufficient, we have a list of sports drinks that we recommend in our Sports Nutrition, Optimized Action Plan. We do not recommend energy drinks of any kind. Besides what they can do to teeth, they also contribute to blood sugar disorders, hypertension, obesity, and myriad other chronic diseases. Treat energy drinks and most sports drinks as you would soda.
