Dear Valued Client

At the beginning of each month, we like to keep you informed about what's new with Bonnie Minsky & Nutritional Concepts. As always, have a happy, healthy day! Nutritional Concepts is a 2007 Working Mother Best Small Company.

How Sugar AGEs You.
Studies have shown time after time that the longest-lived animals share the following traits:
  • Low fasting glucose
  • Low fasting insulin levels
  • Lower body temperature
  • Low percentage body (visceral fat)
  • Reduced thyroid levels
  • Low triglycerides
  • Low leptin
Fasting glucose and insulin are especially crucial for aging, especially if you are genetically predisposed to blood sugar disorders.

Glucose literally AGEs you. In a process called glycation, glucose reacts with protein resulting in sticky, sugar damaged proteins called advanced glycated end products (AGEs). AGEs promote inflammation and free radical damage, both major factors in the aging process. AGEs can:

  • Cause skin and the lining of the arteries to wrinkle and inflame.
  • Promote macular degeneration.
  • Cause destruction of proteins and nerve cells that lead to Alzheimer's disease, memory loss, and neuropathy.
  • Suppress your immune system.
  • Make you more vulnerable to cancer as glucose feeds cancer cells.
As we have been saying incessantly, adhering to wise lifestyle choices will keep your epigenomes harmonized, thus preventing the switches for expressing defective blood sugar genes on OFF.

Gluten-free options abound. Of course, finding the ones that taste palatable is still an adventure.

Most of us are well aware of the glutenous grains that exist. For now, we focus on obvious (and some less than obvious) ingredient terms to look for on food and cosmetic labels that we should AVOID:
