Dear Valued Subscriber,

Did you know that the first settlers were not the pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock? Virginia's Jamestown was technically the first permanent English settlement. They recently started teaching this in school. Unfortunately, the story of Jamestown is far from the fairy tale the experience at Plymouth Rock is made out to be!

Still Need a Cranberry Sauce Recipe?

-2 packages fresh cranberries, thoroughly washed with soft ones removed

-2 12 oz. cans frozen organic apple juice
-1 cup water
-1-2 sweet apple (Fuji, golden or red delicious) peeled and diced or grated
-dash of honey or pure maple syrup, optional to taste

Directions: in a large pot with lid, pour in frozen apple juice and wafer. When defrosted (on low temperature), add the cranberries and apple. Bring to a boil, reduce temperature to medium (or medium high) and cover. When cranberries have popped, remove lid, stir, add maple syrup for added sweetness, and cool to room temperature. Cool in refrigerator in glass or ceramic.

5 Quick Turkey Day Tips
  1. Get as much done today as possible so you can enjoy tomorrow!
  2. Eat breakfast tomorrow (and lunch depending upon when you eat Thanksgiving dinner). Starving yourself until the meal will just make you gorge!
  3. Reduce your overall caloric intake by substituting some or all alcohol with sparkling water.
  4. Make sure you exercise today and Thanksgiving morning to get your metabolism rolling.
  5. Don't force yourself to avoid desired foods during Thanksgiving (unless allergic/intolerant). You'll either be depressed or "pig out" later. Just eat a small portion and chew slowly to savor every morsel.
