NCI Well Connect Mid-Week Brief
January 4, 2017
Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that according to a new study from American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, adding just 4 milligrams of zinc to your diet can have a profound, positive impact on cellular health that helps fight infections and diseases? The researchers suggest that zinc, in particular, reduces wear and tear on DNA.

How easy can this be done? Taking two teaspoons of Zinc Tally per day equals 4 milligrams. If you recall, Zinc Tally is one of our "go-to's" to prevent infection during cold and flu season.

Have a happy, healthy day. Steve and Bonnie
Sauna Use Linked to Lower Dementia, Alzheimer's Risks
Bonnie and Steve: A study from the December issue of Age and Ageing, which included more than 2300 middle-aged men who were deemed healthy at the start of the study, showed that those whose sauna use averaged 4 to 7 times per week were 66% less likely to develop dementia at 20-year follow-up than men who used a sauna once a week. In addition, they had a 65% risk reduction for Alzheimer's Disease.

The report provides extremely promising results from the first major study that shows sauna use to be a potential protective lifestyle factor for common memory diseases," state the authors. They add that the practice "may be a recommendable intervention" to prevent the condition in healthy adults.

From an earlier study in the same group of men, those who used saunas as little as two to three times per week had significantly lower rates of sudden cardiac death/fatal coronary heart disease, fatal cardiovascular disease, and all-cause mortality 18 years later compared with those who used saunas only once a week.

As many of you know, we have had a Far Infrared Sauna in our office for seven years. While the research was in its infancy then, we are now seeing beneficial research come to fruition.

FIR saunas are a wonderful option because they can be easily installed in your home. The one problem is that most are cheaply made and include toxic fillers, glues, and parts that negate much of the benefits. If you would like a referral to a manufacturer we trust wholeheartedly, email Steve separately.

A dry sauna, which you pour water on rocks on to generate steam, is also an option if you have a gym or club that has one. Having one at home is not as convenient as the FIR saunas, however.
