Did you know that glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter, associated with psychoses, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer's, and pain? In addition, according to a speaker at a recent neurologic conference Bonnie attended, glutamate may "burn out" the brain.
What is the most ubiquitous form of glutamate in the food supply: MSG (Monosodium Glutamate)!
Announcement: While the calcium study we cited in last Wednesday's issue found no increased heart disease risk in healthy women taking calcium supplements over a long period of time, we want to reiterate that when taken in large doses without magnesium and vitamin D, calcium supplements can have adverse effects. Individualized dosing instructions, as well as taking the proper calcium source, is paramount.

Updated Instructions for Carlson Super 2 Daily
No Need for Refrigeration.

Steve: The quality control manager at Carlson Laboratories contacted us with new storage suggestions.


Carlson Super 2 Daily should now be stored at room temperature instead of in the refrigerator or freezer.


There have been a few complaints about softgels leaking when at temperature extremes, causing a foul odor or tackiness to the softgels. Because of this, they made a slight tweek to the softgel.


If your current bottle is refrigerated, Carlson suggests keeping it there. When you get a new bottle, however, keep it in the pantry.


As usual, when traveling, just take the number of softgels you need for the trip and leave the bottle at home.

Emotional Trauma

In those who don't respond to traditional treatments, emotional pain from a past trauma, be it abuse or post-traumatic stress, can be the cause of chronic physical pain.



Overuse of pain killers dulls your body's response to pain, so you need more, and more potent, painkillers to alleviate chronic pain, which leads to increased sensitivity to pain in the long run.


Poor-Quality Sleep

Deep sleep is a time when your muscles have an increased blood supply, which helps with tissue growth and repair. You can see an increase in generalized muscle pain within a week of not getting regular deep sleep.


Leaky Gut

Your gut is filled with nerves as well as tiny hairs in the walls called villi that prevent your body from absorbing too many toxins. Taking too many meds or food intolerances can damage both the nerve endings and villi, leading to chronic pain.


Magnesium Deficiency

Good health is practically impossible if you don't have enough magnesium. It blocks your brain's receptors of glutamate, which we mentioned earlier can cause neurons to be hypersensitive to pain through overexcitement.


Lyme Disease

Roughly 32,000 cases are diagnosed every year, and that number will surely rise as climate change allows ticks to survive longer and travel into new regions.
