NCI Well Connect
August 28, 2017
Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW why many of us tolerate European dairy products, but not those from the US?
  1. European dairy is casein A2-dominant, a protein which we tolerate much better. The more allergenic and malabsorbed casein A1 is the dominant protein in US dairy.
  2. US cows chew on glyphosate-laden (Roundup) crops, which leeches into their milk.
  3. Cows in Europe are predominantly grass-fed, which is their natural diet, creating a less-sugary, higher omega-3 enriched product.
HSA, FSA FOR SUPPLEMENTS AND SERVICES
Did you know that if you have an HSA or FSA debit/credit card, you can use it at Nutritional Concepts? While we cannot guarantee it because every account is different, we are able to process most HSA or FSA credit card transactions.

Have a happy, healthy day! Steve and Bonnie

CoQ10 and Inflammation

Bonnie and Steve: Two recent studies show how inflammation is reduced from coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation.

A review in the January issue of PLOS One assessed the effects of CoQ10 on serum levels of inflammatory markers in people with metabolic diseases.

Inflammatory markers, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) and C-reactive protein (CRP), were significantly improved with CoQ10 supplementation from a dosage of 100 mg. or more compared with placebo.

In a recent study in the journal Heart and Vessels, researchers reported the finding of a greater risk of inflammation, malnutrition and dying while hospitalized among coronary care unit patients with lower coenzyme Q10 levels.

In men and women with ischemic cardiomyopathy, nonischemic cardiomyopathy, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmia, venous thromboembolism, or aortic disease, fasting blood samples collected within 24 hours of admission were analyzed for serum CoQ10, plasma lipids, glucose, C-reactive protein (CRP) and additional factors.

Coenzyme Q10 levels averaged 0.54 milligrams per liter among CCU patients in the current study. In comparison, a study that measured CoQ10 levels among healthy older individuals found average levels of 0.71 mg/L.

Here's a huge piece of information to note: Patients who were treated with statinshad CoQ10 levels that averaged 0.46 mg/L, in comparison with an average of 0.58 mg/L among those who were not being treated with the drugs. The ones taking statins had the lowest levels of all subjects in the study! Yet another indication of how statins can deplete CoQ10.

Lower CoQ10 levels were associated with higher CRP levels, indicating an inflammatory state. Decreased CoQ10 levels were also associated with malnutrition.

Among the study's subjects who died, serum CoQ10 levels were significantly lower than those who survived.

This is the first study to show CoQ10's ability role in heart failure prevention and therapy in those withe varied acute cardiovascular disease. CoQ10 also has antioxidant and vasodilatory effects that can benefit the cardiovascular system.

Cognition & Mental Health - All New!

Bonnie and Steve:It only takes a few simple steps to get individualized genetic nutritional support. Test your genome. We translate the results in a way you can understand. We target your individualized needs with nutritional support that can be easily implemented.

Pure Genomics helps the patient with:
  1. Reaffirmation for why existing patients should continue to adhere to their optimal diet and lifestyle. Genes are the deepest layer of individualization. When a patient is doing incredibly well despite horrible genetic deficiencies, it is a strong deterrent to fall off the wagon.
  2. Creates the last thrust of motivation for a patient who is having trouble adhering to their diet and lifestyle protocol.
  3. Provides incredible proof for prevention of family disease history. Connects the dots for many of our patients.
  4. Is a strong component for new patient screenings, especially for methylation, detoxification, antioxidant defense, weight management, metabolic health, memory and cognition, mental health, and essential fatty acid, vitamin A, and vitamin D absorption.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy

Steve: Traditional saunas emit direct heat. Far Infrared uses light to create heat. Far infrared run at much milder temperatures, but travels much deeper into the body, which is why you sweat more vigorously.

Far Infrared Therapy offers numerous therapeutic benefits, most importantly enhanced detoxification. Many of our clients use it to relieve painful joints, rev up metabolism, and remove buildup of heavy metals.

Far Infrared has shown to draw out 15 to 20% more heavy metals (i.e., mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic), hormone-disrupting chemicals, sulfuric acid, ammonia, uric-acid, and fat-soluble toxins than traditional saunas.

A recent study from Age and Ageing, showed that healthy subjects whose sauna use averaged 4 to 7 times per week were 66% less likely to develop dementia at 20-year follow-up than those who used a sauna once a week. In addition, they had a 65% risk reduction for Alzheimer's Disease.

A recent study in JAMA Internal Medicine found that increased frequency of sauna bathing reduced the risk of sudden cardiac death, coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and all-cause mortality.
